Turning a tired concrete deck into pavers
Many Naples homes built in the 1980s through early 2000s still have the original concrete pool deck, often coated with a textured finish that needs repainting every few years. There are two ways to switch to pavers. If the slab is sound and drains correctly, thin pavers can be installed over it. If it’s badly cracked, heaving or sloped toward the house, we remove it and build a new compacted base so the deck drains the right way.
Either way, the details decide whether the result looks right. Adding pavers raises the deck, so we check the height at sliding doors and lanai thresholds before recommending an overlay. We work around screen-enclosure footings, existing deck drains and the pool’s coping, which can be kept or replaced to match the new surface. The deck is pitched away from the pool so rain and splash-out never run back into the water.
