Salt, sun and the island’s soil
Salt carried in the air settles on every surface near the water, and over time it can show up as a white haze on pavers or speed up wear on a weak surface. Quality concrete pavers are dense and handle it well, and a good sealer adds a layer of protection that makes salt residue, tannin from palm fronds and tire marks easier to rinse off. We’ll recommend a sealer and timing based on how exposed your driveway is.
Much of Marco Island sits on sandy fill mixed with shell, which drains quickly but needs to be confined and compacted to stay put. We excavate past loose material, build a compacted aggregate base in layers, and lock the field in with solid edge restraints so the pavers can’t creep toward the swale. On homes where the garage sits close to flood level, we pay extra attention to grade so water moves away from the door, not toward it.
